Today’s High School Registration Chronicles…

Another informative AAMPED session and another disappointing number of attendees. The organizers work hard to provide info/services outside of what schools offer. Don’t quote me (as some of you have lately 👀🙄), but programs like this usually operate from grant funding. Funders decide their grant amounts based on outcomes which include attendance numbers. There hasn’t been a meeting, NOT ONE, where Michai wasn’t fed WELL. We could have skipped tonight’s meeting because I have relationships with enough people to learn the info, but I attended because AAMPED always makes it simple and easy for us to learn what we need to do know. Students may have other activities that conflict, but parents can attend in their stead.

Pic 1…New legislative mandate for rising Juniors and Seniors. Also new is an Economics and Personal Finance Requirement for Seniors. Guess what? AAMPED is offering a personal finance program to 35 young men but only 10 have completed the VERY SIMPLE requirements to participate. Crosby offers ACT assistance and is willing to help families through the registration process should they need support in working with their guidance counselors.
Pic 2…Very helpful because students should absolutely challenge themselves in the classroom, but they also must be realistic about their lives outside of the classroom.

I need parents of AA boys to do better because we would complain if we didn’t have these resources, and if AAMPED goes away because it’s not used, younger AA boys will miss out.
