Today’s Healthcare Day Chronicles…

Closing out my yearly Leadership Winston-Salem duties with a day about the complexities of healthcare. Along with the info in Pics 1, 2 and 3, we learned there is a 20 year decrease in life expectancy in the 27101, 27105 and 27107 zip codes compared to the rest of the zip codes in the county. I was not surprised at the why, but I was surprised to learn the life expectancy in those zip codes has been as it is for years and is expected to remain as such.

I became emotional after participating in an IMPROVment dance session, where the facilitator consistently used Parkinson’s patients as examples for how beneficial the program is, because I thought about how my late grandfather and aunt may have had an easier time with their Parkinson’s diagnoses if they had an opportunity to participate. There was also my new favorite activity…MEDITATION. Deep breathing saves lives and jail time.

Moral of the Pic 2 story…”mental illness is a childhood disease.”

Moral of the Pics 1 and 3 stories…while the quotes are dated, the issues remain. Are you still going to make dumb decisions in the voting booths?

Morals of the Pic 4 story (sent by my mother by the way)…1. It was added humor to our emotional day and 2. My face for the lurkers who screenshot my info versus asking me to make it shareable. ðŸ‘€
