Today’s Black History Month Chronicles…

Thank you to a Human Relations committee member for sending info about tonight’s conversation with Attorney Benjamin Crump. He talked about SO MUCH! I’ll share a few points (from other speakers as well), and will maybe blog about it when I get my energy up.

•Picture your black son, nephew and male cousin…in the next 25 years, 1 of them will be a convicted felon
•1937 winning argument in Congress that helped make weed illegal (he encouraged us to Google it and I must because I remain in disbelief)
•I was moved by a young lady, a current WFU student, who became emotional as she discussed a STEM project she completed about the prison “industry” and how the facts are discussed as theories.
•I was moved because I understood her emotion and received clarity of my emotions when Melissa Harris-Perry stated she will never tell someone (particularly her students) to do justice work because it is expensive. “You lose money, friends, jobs…” I.FELT.THAT and will add, you also lose a great deal of sleep.
•READ…I encourage Michai to do it, especially when he thinks I’m being dramatic about colorism, but I need to do more.

Pics 2, 3, and 4 speak for themselves

*This is me talking* Zimmerman was not initially arrested because of a law and the arrest wasn’t made until the D.A. felt some pressure. The Sheriff in Alabama, who is responsible for Walter McMillan’s arrest, was only recently replaced. It’s not because he was voted out, it’s only because he retired.
