Today’s Work Chronicles…
Are coming earlier than normal because not much needs to be said after the encounter I just had with a resident.
1. I won’t be here much longer if I keep answering the phone like I’m at my other job. 🤦🏾
2. A church came with a pastor who sang like an opera singer. It was very soothing to hear as I endured the cold rain and loss of an hour of needed rest.
3. This one lady makes me feel so special because she tells me all the time how beautiful I am and how proud I make her feel as an African-American woman.
4. Now to the lady that Blessed my whole soul…
She sets the alarm off every time she comes near the door because she’s a fall risk, so I knew she was coming. She proudly tells me who her children are as they leave. Today she said she has 7 beautiful children. I’m always amazed at people with a lot of children because raising one takes most of my energy. Anyway, she said…
Her: I raised 7 beautiful children with 1 bad husband. He didn’t want to work and when he did, he gave his money to other women. I was a virgin when I married him at 18, and he was fine the whole year we dated but I should have let a white preacher marry us.
Me: Why?
Her: Cause a white preacher won’t marry you unless both of y’all are saved, but the black preacher went on head and married us and I struggled to raise those children. I was Blessed to work for some very wealthy white people though. My baby went to Appalachian and stayed on the ‘honor roll’ the whole time. Anyway, I divorced him at 61 and didn’t date another man. I just let THE LAWD take care of me.
Me: 61?
Her: Yea, went to the Kennedys (well known law family in the city) and they got me out. He died the same year.
Me: 😧😱 The same year? You cursed him
Her: No I didn’t either. (As she laughs) GAWD took care of him and me cause now all my stuff is paid for (as she and her walker walk back to her room and set the alarm off again).
