Today’s Work Chronicles…
Healthcare workers (company AND agency employed)…we can’t turn on each other, and we can’t turn on the residents because we think the family members won’t find out (due to restricted visitation).
Residents aren’t who you’re used to:
•They are not all old
•They are not all incompetent
•Many of them will cuss you slap out
Because employees are scarce, facilities are having to return to the use of professionals from agencies. There is history behind agencies; not all are treated fairly and not all work appropriately. Regardless, now is not the time to refuse service because you don’t want to deal with difficult people, and now is not the time to be lazy. Now IS the time to multitask as you’ve never before, and now IS the time to implement compassion. Communicate and tell a teammate to cover you while you go breathe. Tell the charge nurse you need an extra 10 minutes added to your breaks, but don’t take your frustrations out on the residents and WHATEVER you do, DON’T.GET.SLICK.WITH.ME because I will absolutely turn on you! 💁🏾♀️
This period is going to take more than textbook training; we must implement people skills because, “Karma never forgets an address!!!” Heffa
