Today’s Work Chronicles…

Are brought to you by Liam. His Nannie left him at my desk while she went to get the car because he has a cold and forgot his hat so she didn’t want him to get wet.

Me: What’s your name?
Liam: Liam
Me: I like that
Liam: Thank you ma’am, what’s yours?
Me: Micha
Liam: I like that!
Me: How old are you?
Liam: I’m 5 years old ma’am
Me: Great, so you’re in Kindergarten.
Liam: I attend (a school with a long name and he said it fast so I didn’t understand it) and it’s located in Rural Hall but I’m not in Kindergarten yet.
Me: Oh, you’re in Pre-K. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Liam: My momma and daddy said I can have friends so I have friends in my class. (Says something inaudible) but I can’t have any.
Me: *confused* You can’t have any friends?
Liam: No ma’am. My momma and daddy said I can’t have any brothers or sisters.
Me: *Helping him look for his Nannie* Do you know you’re really smart?
Liam: Yes ma’am (as he coughs into his elbow and y’all know I love a well trained cougher, why? *everyone says in unison* BECAUSE IT’S FLU SEASON)
Me: What color is your Nannie’s car?
Liam: Silver like her hair cause she’s old, but SHE’S NOT FRAGILE. He walks to his Nannie who says, “I know he talked your head off.”
Me: He’s super smart and you can bring him back anytime.

As I leave tonight on the eve of my sweet grandmother’s transition, I am reminded of why I was hesitant about coming to work here. The circle of life. I get attached to residents and their family members and am always saddened when they leave. One transitioned before I left and, while I didn’t know her, I’m going to miss seeing her sweet daughters who remind me so much of me and my sister. One daughter said, “She’s at peace now.”

What I want to tell y’all is…don’t wait for your transition to find peace. Live peacefully now, and cut anyone or anything out of your life that compromise your peace. Mine is non-negotiable…💁🏾
