This has been the toughest year I’ve had as a reading buddy. To hear one say, “I’ll be good next week…”, because they refused to participate in reciting their high frequency words this week, is heartbreaking. They’re not bad; they don’t know the words and checking out is their way of expressing their frustration. It’s time to prepare for 1st grade, yet they still can’t spell/write their name.

Until we figure out how to make education equitable (as evidenced by the Pre-K initiative announced yesterday), please contact the WS Chamber Corporate Volunteer Program and donate one hour per week to help these kids.
