Today’s Education Chronicles…
On a day when I would normally meet with my students, I sat in a room with other volunteers to celebrate the close of another reading season. Was encouraged by the two people who sat at my table as we discussed the highs and lows of being a volunteer. One discussed how his mentee was failing and the mother told him she would be done with him after high school and would also be moving away. He said the mentee is now passing and has a plan post high school. Our children need us to be active in their villages because we have no idea what they face at home.
Pictured in the photo and video are some students from Kimberly Park Elementary. There is a small child, on the other side of the group, who runs the group. When he was talking/fussing, the other kids were listening. Happy they are celebrated for beating on drums when so many of our kids were punished for beating on desks. Kind of reminds me how marijuana is legal in so many states yet Black men remain behind…nevermind. Y’all enjoy the performance of the “Knock on Wood” drummers and consider being a Reading Buddy next year. Congratulations to all the 2019 graduates!!!
