Today’s (Yesterday’s) HBCU, Football, Parenting Chronicles…

HBCU…
I returned to the Resume Drive yesterday where there were so many students, they had to be turned away and asked to come back today. Students were much more prepared, engaged and excited about their next steps. I still don’t agree with this generation’s expectations but I don’t get paid to understand them so 🤷🏾‍♀️

HBCUs/Football/Parenting…
See Pics 1 and 2 about the need for black athletes to attend HBCUs. HWCUs (Historically White Colleges and Universities) build their facilities and athletic programs on the backs of black athletes. These are the same facilities and programs used to entice black athletes during recruiting. Imagine what HBCU facilities and scholarship offerings would be if our talent attended our universities. Despite the statistics of students offered scholarships to D1 schools and out of them, the percentage of who actually gets drafted, being quoted during our parent meeting, family members are still grumbling in the stands about the lack of playing time, how they wasted their time talking to the coaches and they will hear from them on Monday. Yet the teachers don’t hear from the parents. Men have to be begged to hold the chains and the mommas won’t donate a bag of chips, let alone serve the players their pre-game meals. Be realistic with your kids about college sports and make sure, in the event of not receiving a full athletic scholarship or incurring an injury, they are doing well academically.

What would happen if they collectively decided to go to black schools? JEMELE HILL OCTOBER 2019 ISSUE'
