Today’s Work Chronicles…

I rarely post about my full-time job because, well, I need it. ‘Howsoever’ (as my mother says), at our year-end “Town Hall”, we were encouraged to tell the BlueCross North Carolina (BCNC) story. When people ask how long I’ve been with the company, I typically reply, “It’s the longest relationship I’ve ever had…and we still like each other.” The work we do in the community, the opportunities I’ve been afforded, the ability to advocate for partnerships with HBCUs, the freedom to challenge the Board by asking them to make sure Diversity and Inclusion (specifically with black people in mind) is a requirement of the next CEO because they need to continue what the previous CEO started…I am grateful for the cross and the shield.

It’s also rare, since the person who occupies the White House got elected, I post about politics; but what’s going on in NC makes me sad and upset because selfishness and pride will cost a lot of people their lives and erase the good work BCNC has done.

As you know, 2020 is an election year and the Government Affairs VP named it a “Triple Full Moon” election in NC as a presidential candidate, US Senator and Governor are all up for election and said to overshadow other candidates on the ballot. Pay attention to the other candidates because our current legislature is the reason we won’t have Medicaid expansion in January.

Other info…
•Super Tuesday is March 3rd
•400k new voters this election; 50% either weren’t old enough to vote in the previous election or didn’t live in NC
•Millenials and younger are 50% of voters. They don’t get info from the same source and tend to not show up at the polls
•One bad bill can have a huge impact on our livelihood
•Legislators voted on the side of providers over insurance carriers…but should there even be a side? We are all patients…

Do your research, think of someone other than yourself and do your part.

Now…I know this is social media, but before you fix your fingers to type a cross word about my employer, let me warn you…I go harder for them than WSSU. ‘Howsoever’, if you have questions or need assistance, I’m happy to help so inbox me. 👍🏾😉
