All Hands On Deck!!!

I’ve shared/mentioned a few great articles to groups this week: 1. A Black woman running to be president of the local NAACP 2. A Black family taking their lacrosse talents to teach children in neighborhoods that aren’t exposed to the sport 3. A Black woman highlighted for being a vocal educator and strong force within the anti-racist community.

In her article she mentioned how we have a short attention span and that she’s not seeing as many “Black Lives Matter” posts in recent days. I agree. In fact, I strategically change the titles of certain posts to make sure they are read.

One of the first things I read after meditation this morning has pained me.

That coupled with receiving a friend’s message who, after sharing a story I learned about on the snap and the chat said, “Where are the parents? But you know, we (she and her husband) are right here and look what’s going on.” She was referencing some discoveries she made about her child. I learned about them after she asked for Michai’s therapist’s info.

I commended her for asking for help and explained what I did when I learned about some unflattering things about Michai. “I told the village it was “ALL HANDS ON DECK!” She’s been working with kids in some capacity for 20+ years, and we both agreed how tough it is to have an impact on other kids, but miss what’s happening in our homes.

Even though we’re Black, many of us live a life of privilege, i.e “when you think something is not a problem because it’s not a problem to you PERSONALLY!” And much like a stop the violence flyer I also saw on my timeline yesterday reads… “Enough is Enough!”

We not only have to do what Matthew 26:41 says, “watch as well as pray…”, we must also “WORK AS WELL AS PRAY!”

Parents, Black parents in particular, I KNOW WE ARE TIRED, but we have to muster the strength to look out for other folk’s children and hold them accountable. And parents, Black parents in particular, we gotta allow people (we trust) to correct our kids. Yes…your kids can be wrong, they lie real bad too and some need therapy. Believe it. Allow others to call them out on it and you call their friends out, because it ain’t cute.

This generation includes some of the most brilliant, tech savvy, resilient and humorous young people, but they won’t live to see what the end is gonna be if we don’t put ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!

Micha loves the kids! Well, some of ’em…😏🙂
