Fulton, Mary Cannon Willis

Winston-Salem 08/19/1927 – 03/25/2016 “For God has not given us the spirit of fear but He’s given us love and power” In the early morning of March 25, 2016, Mary Cannon Willis Fulton, relinquished her fears and allowed herself to safely rest. She was the last child born to William Ranzer and Sadie Carina Willis on August 19, 1927 in the city of Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Fred (Mildred) Willis, Sr., William “June” Willis, Jr., Rosa Small and James (Georgia) Willis, Sr.; her husband, Thomas Fulton, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Roland (Roseanna) Fulton, Sr. and Herman Fulton; a special nephew, Calvin Small; and a grandson, Christopher Harris. She graduated from the ORIGINAL Atkins High School in the class of 1944. She was also a lifelong member of Ephesus SDA Church where she served in numerous capacities. She retired from the illustrious institution of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) after 22 years of service. After retirement, she returned to WSSU as a counselor for the Upward Bound Program. She was married to Thomas Preston Fulton, Sr. for nearly 60 years until he passed in 2010. Together they birthed and now leave behind five children, Thomas (Patricia) Fulton, Jr. of South Hamilton, Bermuda, Denise James of the city, Regina (Charles) Harris of Miami, Florida, Ronald (Denise Zaninelli) Fulton and Sonya Fulton both of the city; nine grandchildren, Dina (Bobby) Goddard of Raleigh, NC, Micha James of the city, Courtenay Harris of Dallas, TX, De’Ron Fulton, Nhy and Nhyla Ferguson all of the city, Samone Tuff and Vernitra (Brandon Walton) Yountz of Greensboro, NC, Larry (Felicia) Jenkins, Sr. of the city, and a special little helper who acted as a grandson, Jacob Roey; ten great-grandchildren, Michai James of the city, Jordan and Sydney Tuff and Dylan Walton of Greensboro, NC, Tecora, Breon, Justice, Jevon, Larry, Jr., and Leah Jenkins of the city; sisters-in-law, Mary Willis of Buffalo, NY, and Margaret Fulton of the city; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. A celebration of her love for music will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Ephesus SDA Church. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
