Our Kijiji

My mother loves to tell the story of how I would throw (I think it was more of a “drop”) my pacifier on the floor and refuse to pick it up. “They say” I used to cuss when I “dropped” it too. Her favorite part is when someone would take my arm and place it near the pacifier, but in my refusal, I would keep my hand closed EVEN after being popped (spanked for my White counterparts). I can neither confirm nor deny any of it since I don’t remember. I can admit I don’t like doing anything I don’t want to do, nor do I like people telling me what to do. Who does? 🤷🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️

I have, however, always listened and the older I get, I try to listen to understand versus respond. I listened to family and friends who encouraged me to write on my own platform. I’m now listening to an extreme changemaker and influencer, Kellie Easton, and have accepted her offer to HOST A VLOG entitled, Our Kijiji! It will launch April 17th and air new episodes 3-4 times a month.

“Someone’s always watching” and I’m incredibly grateful to be chosen for such a task!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Kijiji means “village” in Swahili, and what I love about the platform is that it is, “For Us, By Us,” meaning I will host Black people and allow them to showcase their holistic selves. We’ll talk about their businesses, we’ll offer resources to help the community, we will discuss Universal Pre-k every other month, but most of all…we will talk about Black lives, because they really do matter.

We will expand to a website where my vision is to have a resource tab for the community to receive help from people who look like them. I also hope to have an avenue for people to anonymously submit requests or ask questions they may not want to publicly discuss.

I bet y’all can’t guess who committed to cohost/host one week each month…M I C H A I!!!

I know…I know…many of you are thinking, “I thought she said she doesn’t like being in front of the camera? I thought she said she was an introvert?” First of all, mind your business and secondly, you should also know I’m an implementer and will do what I can to help the community. So tell me what y’all need and what you want to talk about…IT.IS.OUR.TIME!
